Big Spring Clean and Parish Path Surveys

Big Spring Clean

The ‘Big Spring Clean’ project is a new annual event that takes place throughout the whole of Ermington Parish.
The aim is to make Ermington the cleanest parish in the South Hams. In the morning, volunteers meet at the Crooked Spire, and are given a route to walk along which they pick up all the litter.

After the clean up everyone meets back at the pub for lunchtime refreshments. The project is supported by many groups.
Ivybridge Scouts clean the hiking routes, including the national footpath, Erme – Plym Trail.
Ivybridge Environment Action Group use their riparian skills to clean the River Erme. South Hams District Council provides all the kit and collects all the rubbish at the end of the day.
Westcountry Road Management provides highways signage to notify traffic to be vigilant and to slow down for the litter pickers.

Many businesses clean up around the industrial estates at Lee Mill.
Some businesses also sponsor a prize which is given for a photo of the most unusual object found.
