Dear All,

Following yesterday’s news of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh.
I am letting you know how the Three Rivers Mission Community will be marking this sad event:

1. Sunday Services for the 11th April will continue as planned, although a specific Order of Service will be produced.
These are as follows, to attend you must book in with the contact person and a reminder that Covid guidance is still in place.

9.30am Holy Communion Service at Ugborough Church.
Please contact Sue Johns on 07889 737967 or suejohnsdunwellfarm@gmail.com

9.30am Morning Service at Harberton Church
Please contact Alicia Stolliday on 01803 867372 or astolliday@icloud.com

11am Holy Communion Service at Diptford Church
Please contact Mary Pinhey on 01548 821330 or diptfordwithnorthhuish@btinternet.com

11am HolyCommunion Service at Ermington Church
Please contact Ellen Hill on 07761 495033 or ellenh12@hotmail.com

4.30pm Holy Communion Service at Halwell Church
Please contact Rose Palmer on 07976 869506 or rosepalmer@btconnect.com

2.Book of condolence - To help keep everyone safe, there will not be a book of condolence in any of the Churches within the Three Rivers Mission Community.
Instead, we encourage you to leave your message on the Church of England’s national online book of condolence at https://www.churchofengland.org/remembering-his-royal-highness-prince-philip or https://www.royal.uk

3.The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers has now advised the ringing of a single bell, half muffled, on Saturday at 12:00 noon for 5 minutes and also half muffled for pre-service ringing on Sunday.
Also Church Bells can be tolled for the hour immediately prior to the time of the funeral service.
The Bell Tower Captains have been informed of these details.

4.The St. George’s Flag can be flown at half-mast on any of the Church flagpole and to remain at this height until the day after the funeral.
See guidance: British Flag Institute – see especially Flying flags in the United Kingdom and Flags for Churches

5.Floral tributes - In line with the wishes of the Royal Family and taking into account public safety guidelines, we ask that you consider making a donation to a charity instead of leaving floral tributes in memory of The Duke of Edinburgh.

6.Services of Commemoration - One or two of these, will take place within the Mission Community, during the next 7 - 10 days, depending upon the date of the Funeral.
Details will be circulated once date and venues has been confirmed.
There will also be an Online service at 6pm, the evening before the funeral.

7.All of the above and further information as it arises, will be published on 3rivers.org.uk and on http://www.achurchnearyou.com

Finally, I enclose a short Order of Service, which you may like to use at home during this time of official mourning.

Many thanks and God Bless,
David

The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Ermington

There is some Norman stonework between the porch and the present tower but there was then only a single central aisle and a lower chancel, as can be seen from the roof plates above the choir stalls.
In the 14th century, the Norman tower was demolished and a new one built where it still is, but without a spire.
The north and south aisles were also added, and, in the 15th century, the Lady Chapel and spire were built.
The North Transept was added in the 16th Century. An illustrated guide to the church can be downloaded here and copies are also available at the back of the church, which is open every day.

In 1991 the Parish of Ermington was joined with the neighbouring village of Ugborough to form the United Benefice of Ermington and Ugborough.
This is now part of the Three Rivers Mission Community, which also includes the parishes of Diptford, Halwell, Harberton, Harbertonford and Moreleigh.
The present Rector of the Mission Community is Rev’d David Sayle, who is responsible for all the parishes in the Community.

There is a regular pattern of Sunday services in Ermington Church.
This pattern has had to be changed because of the coronavirus pandemic but services are once again being held in church each Sunday at 11.00 a.m., when all are most welcome to attend.

Further information on services and events at Ermington, online and elsewhere in the Mission Community is available on the website at www.3rivers.org.uk and at www.achurchnearyou.com/church/9152 as well as in the Church Newsletter and the Parish Magazine. Details of services are also posted on the notice board in the church porch.
